Istanbul offers various accommodation options and even in the bus station there is a nice, cozy and cheap hotel. If you intend to get your Bus to Iraq from OTOGAR Bus Terminal in Istanbul, this is the best option for you.
During my experience on this travel by bus to Iraqi Kurdistan, I got the bus at Aksarai part of Istanbul, but I understood that they called someone at Otogar Esenler to know if they had to go there and pick someone else. So, when booking your ticket (try by phone with someone Turkish possibly from your hostel or hotel), state you’ll be in OTOGAR ESENLER.
Either the way, I would do it going to Aksarai. But it’s really up to you either you want to get the bus from Esenler Otogari or in Aksarai in the city center. Otogar Esenler Bus Terminal is a huge bus terminal of several buildings which looks more like an airport due to its incredible size. This is a giant complex with hundreds of destinations and departures every hour.
There is a hotel right in the center of this building, called “Leader Otel”. It is a simple hotel but with more quality than one would expect for such a location and by the fact it is located inside a Turkish bus terminal. The price is more than normal but really its location is excellent for those who have to leave the Esenler Otogar to any destination in Turkey using a bus. The Subway access to Istanbul is also very easy as you have a Subway station inside the terminal.

- Room 2 people: 90 Turkish liras = 47.8 Euros
The hotel price includes: breakfast buffet “All you can eat” with tea, milk, eggs, bread, butter, fruit, tomato, cucumber, Turkish cheese, jams, etc.
