After a couple of days in Erbil, the capital of Kurdistan Region in Iraq, I decided to take a private taxi as it is one of the safest, most comfortable and faster ways to move from city to city.

I took a taxi near the citadel in Hawler (Erbil), and simply said “Dohuk garag ” and the driver took me to an office from where private taxis BMW, Toyota and Hiunday take people to several destinations in Iraq.

I noticed that one guy gave money to the taxi driver, a small fee for him taking me there, for sure there are other companies doing the same service so its fair enough he gets something. As I knew the price of this trip, I was OK for possible price increase, but ultimately the taxi driver comission didn’t influence the price of the BMW to Dohuk.

The journey passes through the protected Kurdish zone (road that goes through Ruwia) and does not pass in Mosul. It takes about 2 hours and half with a stop for tea and toilet. The car is air conditioned and with 3 passengers + driver.

  • Price Taxi from Erbil to Dohul = 15,000 Dinars = 8.89 EUROS

The agency’s staff was very friendly and did an awesome party with my presence, played with each other, took pictures with mobile phones, they took my photo camera to make pictures of eachother making funny things… well … incredible.
