The monastery of Ta Shi Lhun Po is one of the four monasteries of Tibetan schools “Yellow Hat” founded by Je Tsongkhapa (1357-1419). This monastery was founded in 1447 by the first Dalai Lama called Gedun Drupa.

You can visit all areas of the monastery including the assembly hall which dates from the fifth century, the stupa Banchan Lama, and also the golden stupa of the tenth century Here in this monastery there is the largest Buddha Maitrya statue the world – made of pure gold and copper.

I loved visiting this monastery where I had the opportunity to talk a little with some young monks. This whole area around the town of Shigatse is amazing.
