Ile-Alatau National Park Kazakhstan

During my stay in Kazakhstan, one of best things I was able to visit and to experience was the Ile-Alatau National Park, a magnificent wildlife and nature sanctuary located at Karasai District just about 60km of Almaty in southeast Kazakhstan. Ile-Alatau National Park is located on the northern slopes of the Trans-Ili Alatau Mountains from the Tien-Shan Mountain Range. The Ile-Alatau National Park stretches around 2,023 sq km from Turgen Gorge in the east, to the Chemolgan River in the west.

Little has changed in the 2,500 years since the first nomadic tribes moved through this spur of the Tian Shan range along what is now the border between Kazakhstan and Kyrgyzstan. Alexander the Great, Genghis Khan and the Great Silk Road traders might still recognize the pristine valleys and towering peaks. Ile-Alatau National Park main entrance is located about 100 km / 60 miles east of Almaty. Because of its proximity to the city of Almaty there are several working projects to increase tourism.

Wildlife in Ile-Alatau National Park: Snow Leopard, Irbis, Rodent, Central Asian Lynx, Predatory, Cheiroptera, Hare, Tien-Shan Brown Bear, Central Asian Rock Marten, Siberian Ibex, Tau-teke, Ibisbill, Bearded Vulture, Griffin Vulture, Golden Eagle, Blue Rock Thrush, Maral Deer, Roe Deer, Wolf, Boar, Fox, Badger, Saker Falcon, Pigeon Hawk, Barbary Falcon, Himalayan Griffon, Booted Eagle, Egyptian Vulture, Tit-warbler, Great Rosefinch, Whistling Thrush, Black Stork, Red Dog, Manul, Stone Marten, Argali, Indian Porcupine, Swallowtail, Tien-Shan Apollo Butterfly, Delphius Butterfly and Rite Swallowtail.
