The well-known and emblematic “Bosphorus Express” runs between Istanbul – Bucharest – Istanbul.

The trip is very good indeed, across part of Romania, Bulgaria and a bit of Turkey to reach the final destination Istanbul.

The train leaves every night at 10pm from the train station of Istanbul and the trip duration comes close to 17 or 18 hours depending on the time it takes the border Turkey / Bulgaria, sometimes it takes up more than 2 hours.

I bought the ticket for a 3 person compartment, but only had two beds.

I shared the compartment with an American who after living a year in Ankara was moving with all his baggage to Berlin. In the next room were a couple of Australians with a phenomenal energy and friendliness.

Very cool trip.

Bosphorus Express – Bosporus Ekspres Route: Istanbul, Sirkeci Station Terminal, Turkey – Kapikule, Turkey – Svilengrad, Bulgaria – Dimitrovgrad, Bulgaria – Rousse, Bulgaria – Bucharest, Romania and back to Istanbul.
