Micronesia UNESCO has registered 1 site on the World Heritage list and 1 on the tentative list.

Some places are so interesting that it’s relevant to keep them for future generations. This is why UNESCO has built a list of crucial classified properties in which superb places stand out for their aesthetic, natural, artistic, or cultural significance.

More than a thousand places are registered as Unesco’s World Heritage worldwide. Due to my interest in visiting World Heritage sites, I compiled the UNESCO list in Micronesia and the corresponding map.

Description

  1. Nan Madol is an ancient city located on the eastern shore of the island of Pohnpei in Micronesia. The ceremonial and political center of the Saudeleur dynasty ruled Pohnpei from around 500 AD to 1500 AD. The city comprises over 90 artificial islets constructed from large basalt stones and connected by a network of canals. The structures include palaces, temples, tombs, and residential buildings, and the complex is considered an exceptional example of the architectural and engineering skills of a pre-industrial society. It was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2016.

UNESCO World Heritage Sites in Micronesia have protected places for their cultural and natural importance.
