I don't follow travel blogs the way readers do. I've been on the other side of the screen since 2003 — making the thing people follow.
This list has lived on my site, in one form or another, for more than a decade. It grew to over 2,300 blogs, and for years it ranked at the top of Google for almost every travel-blog search there was. Then travel blogging itself started dying, and so did the list: this month I re-checked every one of the 2,111 blogs it has ever carried, one by one. 848 of them are gone — domains dead, parked, sold to casinos, or simply abandoned mid-sentence. Roughly two in five.
What remains is more valuable than the old phone book ever was: 1,263 blogs that are still alive, still written by real people with real names. I've spent twenty-three years in this community — VirtualTourist in 2003, this blog since 2006, Lonely Planet Pathfinders, press trips, rallies and border posts shared with many of the people behind these sites. I know who is real. That is the only editorial criterion that matters in 2026, when half the "travel blogs" Google shows you were written by nobody at all.

The Graveyard
848 blogs from this list no longer exist. Some of them were good — better than most of what replaced them. Travel blogging's golden decade produced thousands of voices, and one in three has now gone silent: bought by link farms, parked by registrars, or just left behind when the writer got a job, had a child, or lost the fight against an algorithm that stopped rewarding real experience. I keep the count as a matter of record, the same way I keep a ledger of every border I ever crossed. The internet forgets fast. Somebody should keep score.
If your blog belongs on this list — or is listed and shouldn't be — write to me. A human answers.
